seeing as how you're the resident GM fanboy, what do you think of these? Saw a couple this week, they're so weird...

I fucking hate these things.
Hate them.
They're ugly, slow, and have the worst interior.
I'd much rather have gotten the Silverado SS that was on sale at the same time.

meh forget him, i think they're cool.
Loved em from the moment they debuted.

the only reason I have any respect for them is that they are sort of quirky and have an interesting idea behind them... a convertible pickup truck. The world needs more of those, lol

I like it. Its different. I put it with the Prowler, could have been better but still cool.

yeah you gotta give GM some credit for having a bit of fun.
My dad actually wanted one desperately. But for some reason he'd only buy one if it was yellow, and with the newer motor. The motor I get, not the yellow haha.
Anyhow, he couldn't find the right combo when he was shopping and bought a silverado, which was a better option giving he bought a big ass boat to tow with it and the 4x4 is nice on the boat launch ramp.

the 06 was the best year, but there big problem was 5.3 votec from the silverado at a Corvette price. At least in 06 (also last year) they stuck the LS1 in it and offered a 6spd manual. I liked them good use but Chevy killed it with bad pricing.

Logan is wrong for hating these. I wanna start a landscaping business and have this be my pickup.

Unique, ok. I think it's a little ugly.

I like these things actually. Alot. The best ones came with an LS2 and 6 speed manual. Basically a TrailBlazer SS buth with manual optional.

Except I feel were lame attempt at filling the hole in the Lineup left by the recently canceled Camaro. GM should have put that effort into something more rational like bringing the Holden v8 Sedans here earlier (I bet a pre economic crisis G8 or SS sedan would have sold a lot better since the development of the SSR would have been in 01/02 time frame)
![]() 08/26/2014 at 12:47 |

yeah but I wouldn't have wanted them to NOT DO the SSR. I like it. I know most don't but I do.
I would have loved for more G8/SS's to be on the road because I love the holden based RWD V8s but still.

I understand I am the same way about the Merc Marauder they may not have done it correctly but I am glad they did it at all I love those damn things. My post did make me think of something. Was there a stillborn 5th gen Camaro being developed in the late '90s early '00s and how far did it get before GM pulled the plug?

hahaha we share some of the same sentiments, then. I think the idea of a convertible pick up is kind of cool, but I think it was a good idea poorly executed.
When I saw one of them this week, I had a friend from India with me, and he asked me "what the hell is that" and I told him what it was and he said "oh, it looks like some stupid idea for a VW Beetle conversion." I lol'd.
![]() 08/26/2014 at 12:57 |

that would be fucking awesome, you totally should

no there wasn't.
I know because I worked on the launch/return of the Camaro. And despite how much I screamed, yelled, and stamped my feet they kept putting the damn thing out there in gray.
Oh we're coming back out with one of our top performance oriented vehicles! HERE'S THE MOST BORING COLOR EVER
(said by the owner of a boring gray DD)

Would a new one with a better design and better motor/transmission/interior be cool? Yeah.
But I'd rather have a Cruze SS, Sonic SS, and new Silverado SS before one of those.

Interesting So once the '98 refresh was done and styled that was it. Thanks for the info and Bravo Zulu on trying to fight the grey!

I own one. yellow. love it.

As another GM fanboy I can verify this is the consensus at bowtie HQ.

One would think these would be insanely popular in the Florida panhandle, which is really Alabama and Georgia with a Gulf Coastline.
But alas. It was not to be.

As an owner, they aren't slow it has a goddamn LS2. The interior is functional but cheap - just broke the door handle off a couple months ago and whoever designed that piece should be shot. I love that its a convertible and its lots of fun especially in yellow. Also manual transmission.

nice, how long have you owned it?
![]() 08/26/2014 at 13:26 |

yea I tried, but the entry level creative guy (at the time) could only do so much ya kno?
I mean, old one died in 2002. Lets just say they most likely started working on a new one, pretty close to when that one was cancelled to be able to get it on road as an all new vehicle in fall 08/spring of 09.
The difference there is really that they just didn't start on it ahead of time to have it ready for the next model to run out in 03. They just kind of stopped until the next one was ready, which is weird.

The ones with the LS2 could get going, but the early ones with the 5.3? No, considering it was supposed to be a sports car/truck thing. It doesn't help that they were only sold with a manual the last year they were on sale.
I'm personally marking it up as a complete fucking failure on GM's part.
